Results Themes concerned illness perceptions, impactonthe family, and carers’emotional, cognitive and behaviouralresponses towards the illness. Parents perceived anorexia nervosa to be chronic and disabling.Carers blamed themselves as contributing to the illness andperceived themselves ashelpless in promotingrecovery.Mothers illustrated an intense emotionalresponse, whereas fathersproduced amore cognitive and detached account.
